Overview

Lakeland College is a renowned post-secondary college in Alberta, Canada. It was established in 1911 as Vermilion farm, subsequently named the Vermilion School of Agriculture (1913), then Vermilion Agricultural and Vocational College, became Vermilion College and is now recognized as Lakeland College. Lakeland College has two campuses in Vermilion and Lloydminster. It serves over 7,000 students in an academic year.

Being the only inter-provincial college in Canada, Lakeland College serves residents of both Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is a member of College and Institutes Canada (CICAN) and the Alberta Rural Development Network.

At Lakeland College, students arrive from all around the globe. In the past few years, students from 20+ countries joined this college. We also help current students find study abroad opportunities and internships. As part of its mandate, Lakeland is also involved in projects and partnerships with other post-secondary educational institutes in Canada and around the globe.

Programming areas at Lakeland include agricultural sciences, business, energy, environmental sciences, fire and emergency services, early childhood education, health and wellness, human services, interior design technology, trades and technology.

Vermilion Campus:

Lakeland began here in 1913 as the Vermilion School of Agriculture, and it still has a countryside feel: green lawns, mature trees,and as much sky as you want.
A lot of the learning at Vermilion takes place outdoors --- on the college farm, the Emergency Training Centre's training grounds, or the environmental science programs field labs.
But times have changed since 1913, and so has Lakeland's campus at Vermilion. Today our modern classrooms and computer labs support coursework in more than eight disciplines, including award-winning programs in interior design, trades and early learning and child care.
Enrolment at Vermilion numbers nearly 2,000 today, with more than 500 of those students living on campus, a few minutes' walk from the classrooms. It's the more rural of our two campuses --- offering a true small-town college experience.

Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to Lakeland College:

International students are considered on case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
Should provide the certificate issued by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) that compares educational credentials from other countries to educational standards in Canada.
Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

Please note: If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you must obtain a valid study permit before you come to Canada.

On-Campus Housing
The residence is convenient, full of opportunity and safe. And, it's more than a bed and desk. Living on campus is an exciting opportunity to learn, grow and get the most of our college. Lakeland grads sometimes tell us that they learned as much living in residence as they did in the classroom -- and had more fun doing it. Living on campus gave them:

You need to know

You have support from trained residence assistants (RAs)
You have choices for the type of dorm you'll want to live in. Currently we offer alcohol-free in Vermilion, and depending on our student demographic, mature student dorms.
All of our dorms and family housing units are non-smoking.

Living on Campus in Vermilion

Vermilion's residence village is just steps away from everywhere -- classes, the cafeteria, the bookstore, Spurs, you name it.
First year students will be in a double room, as there are a limited number of singles.
Single rooms are saved for returning students or those who have medical issues.
Bathrooms are shared by no more than four students.
Each building has common TV, kitchen, and free laundry facilities. There's also free Wi-Fi. However, if you are a heavy user - gaming, downloading - you probably should get your own account.

Homestay
Homestays are an integral system of housing for students. Students have the opportunity to avail homestay facilities as per their discretion and choices. Homestay hosts include single people, young couples with children and pets, and older couples. All homestay accommodations have been inspected, and all adults in the home have completed a required criminal reference check.
